      June 2010

1 in 5 people in Wales has a lung condition.
We're here for every one of them.
Lung testing across Wales
We've been holding lung testing events across Wales in venues such as shopping centres. The latest events took place in Cwmbran, Bangor and Port Talbot, with one lined up shortly for Aberystwyth. The lung tests are aimed at highlighting lung health, and identifying people who may have below-average lung capacity so they can be referred to their GP.Read the Western Mail coverage of our lung testing work.

Helpline is a lifeline....
The BLF Helpline receives more calls from Wales, proportionate to population, than any other part of the UK, according to recent figures.  The Helpline team includes trained respiratory nurses and other advisers who can give information and support to people with lung conditions and their carers.  They can advise on everything from managing a lung condition to benefits and travel insurance.

The Helpline now also offers an online booking service - book a call with an adviser and they call you back within 2 hours.

Breathe Easy Week - Children's Charter
We held our annual Meet the Patients event for Assembly Members on 16 June, calling for better pulmonary rehab services, and launching our children's charter . The Charter calls for more focus on children's lung health. Sign our petition calling for a ban on smoking in cars carrying children.  Across Wales, Breathe Easy groups held events to highlight lung conditions, marking Breathe Easy Week.

Climb, jump, abseil - all for BLF WalesNeath Valley abseil
Thanks to Neath Valley Breathe Easy group for raising over £6000 in this year's abseil, taking their total raised for BLF Wales over 4 years to an astonishing £21,000.

Thanks too to Chris Brayshay and friends, who climbed all 15 Welsh peaks over 3000 feet in 24 hours, and to Owain Rowlands who climbed Kilimanjaro. The Millington family in Holywell have done a parachute jump. To everyone raising funds to support our work - thanks a million!  BLF Wales Just Giving page
